This Privacy Policy explains what information Homie, made by The New Home Phone, collects about you, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. We built Homie to give families more privacy from the outside world — we take the same approach to how we handle your data.

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy applies to thenewhomephone.com, the Homie mobile app, and the Homie home phone service (together, the "Service"), operated by The New Home Phone ("Homie," "we," "us," or "our"). It describes how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information when you visit our site, pre-order or purchase Homie, activate your device, and use the Service. It should be read together with our Terms of Service.

3. How we use your information

  • To create and manage your account, process orders, and fulfill pre-orders and shipments
  • To provide the Service, including call routing, call screening against your approved contacts, and the Everywhere and Homie-to-Homie calling plans
  • To register and transmit your service address for 911/emergency dispatch purposes, as required by FCC rules
  • To process payments through Stripe and manage billing for the optional Everywhere plan
  • To communicate with you about your order, your account, service outages, and changes to our policies
  • To provide customer support
  • To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
  • To comply with legal obligations, including responding to lawful requests from law enforcement, PSAPs, or emergency dispatch providers in connection with a 911 or emergency call
  • To improve Homie's products and services, including analyzing aggregated, de-identified usage trends

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your call content or approved-contacts list for advertising purposes.

4. Who we share information with

We share personal information only as described below, and we require the service providers we work with to protect your information and use it only for the purposes we authorize.

  • Underlying telecommunications carriers (Twilio and Telnyx). We share your phone number, call routing information, and — critically — your registered service address with our underlying VoIP carriers so that they can connect your calls and route 911/emergency calls to the correct Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) with the correct dispatchable location. This sharing is required for Homie's core emergency-calling functionality to work.
  • Emergency services and law enforcement. When you make a 911 or other emergency call, your phone number, registered address, and call information are shared with the applicable PSAP, emergency dispatcher, or first responders, as required to route and respond to your call.
  • Payment processor (Stripe). We use Stripe to process payments for your device purchase and any Everywhere plan subscription. Stripe receives your payment card and billing information directly and processes it under its own privacy policy.
  • Service providers. We work with vendors that help us operate our website, app, customer support tools, email, and shipping/fulfillment, who receive only the information needed to perform their services.
  • Legal & safety. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of a person, prevent fraud, or protect our rights.
  • Business transfers. If The New Home Phone is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy or a policy providing at least equivalent protection.

5. Cookies & similar technologies

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working correctly, remember your preferences, understand how visitors use the site, and, where applicable, measure the effectiveness of our marketing. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may affect some site functionality, such as our embedded checkout. We do not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals, but you can exercise the choices described in Section 8 below.

6. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with our legal obligations (including FCC recordkeeping requirements for 911 disclosure acknowledgments), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Call metadata and account information are generally retained for the duration of your account plus a reasonable period afterward for legal, billing, and support purposes. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

7. Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit for account and payment flows and restricted access to systems that store your service address and account data. No system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

8. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights with respect to your personal information, which can include the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information (including your registered service address, which you can also update directly in the Homie app)
  • Delete your personal information, subject to exceptions such as information we must keep for legal, safety, or billing reasons
  • Obtain a copy of your information in a portable format
  • Opt out of certain uses of your information, including marketing communications and, where applicable, the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
  • Withdraw consent, where our processing is based on consent
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights

These rights are consistent with frameworks such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and we honor applicable requests regardless of where you live, subject to identity verification and applicable legal limits. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information in Section 13. Please note that deleting certain information (such as your registered service address) may affect our ability to provide 911/emergency calling and other core parts of the Service.

9. Children's privacy

Homie accounts are created and managed by adults. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 in the manner addressed by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). A parent or guardian may add a child as an approved contact or set up a Homie phone for a child's use as part of the household account, but the account itself, and any personal information associated with it, is controlled by the adult account holder. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information outside of a parent-controlled account, please contact us at the email below so we can address it.

10. International visitors

Homie is designed for use in the United States, and our servers and service providers are primarily located in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those of your home country.

11. Governing law

This Privacy Policy, and any dispute relating to it, is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, consistent with the governing law provision in our Terms of Service.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Homie app before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
